Finally back in South Jersey after a long and enjoyable weekend in Maryland/D.C.

I spent the weekend down in Maryland on the campus of the University of Maryland with a friend who graduated from there. That’s right, yours truly was, “herb’in them in the home of the Terrapins.” Well, not exactly herb’in them, but definitely drinking!

We got down there Thursday evening and the plan was simple- Clubbing.

We got into D.C. that night after getting in and getting settled at my boy Kev’s friend’s apartment. After settling in and a little pre-gaming with the beer of choice, quaintly referred to by Kevy as the “Nectar of the Gods”, Natty Ice, I immediately began getting myself all-dressed-to-impress.

In D.C. we got into a section of the city called Adams Morgan, a stretch of bars and clubs where the desired evening of dancing and meeting fine females was achieved.

I felt like a supermodel. Now, I consider myself an attractive guy. I’m confident that I can hold my own when it comes to heading out, dancing, meeting new people and socializing. In D.C. though, I felt like Super Ed.

There wasn’t a girl I didn’t see that I didn’t approach, either to flirt or dance. I ended up meeting, dancing with, and enjoying the company of a beautiful blonde southern belle out of Georgia. Britney was her name. She was gorgeous and a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, she was a little too drunk for both hers and my own good. To top it off, she had someone watching over her, like beer buddy or even worse, a nanny. She wouldn’t lay off of us for even a moment. Eventually, her “fairy godmother” decided that it was about that time for “Cinderella” to head home for the evening, without yours truly. Unfortunate.

We exchanged numbers. I doubt anything will come of it.

Saturday, we spent the afternoon in D.C. sightseeing around the museums and the capitol building. I took in the Washington Monument and felt overwhelmed with the history and awe of the Lincoln Memorial. We had met up with some friends of Kev’s,  Tim, his girlfriend Katie and her friend Megan, who was in from Nebraska.

Hungry, the group decided to eat a nice place in D.C. called Clydes. It was really good. Afterwards we returned to the apartment for a little drinking and partying. I started to get into it and began dancing with Megan, for whom I had began to take a liking to.

By the end of night, I ended up at Tim’s apartment. I will say this much; it was a good way of capping off a really pleasant night.

The next morning I awoke in a in a room in a bed both foreign to me. It was hot and I couldn’t understand why or where the girl I had ventured there for last night had run off to. I didn’t think much of it, opening a window for some air, and I quickly returned back to bed.

At about 1:30, I finally decided to get up. Still no girl. Oh well, I guess.

With no cell phone on me and no idea of where I was or how I was getting home, I figured it best to wake my host, Tim, up from his slumber so he could assist me in returning back to my weekend getaway in College Park.

After a few phone calls to a few people, including Kevy, and about an hour of waiting, Kevy arrived at Tim’s place in Arlington, Va with some clothes for me. I showered and changed and off we went to Old Town for the day.

After some sight-seeing and a little food to hold us off, we returned to CP to began the main event of the weekend…BEER OLYMPICS.

Kev’s team, oddly named Manhands, a spoof from the Seinfeld television series, was the favorite to win it all, especially thanks to kev’s ability to chug a ridiculous amount of alcoholic beverages in a short amount of time.

The main threat standing in the way of Kev’s quest to claim overall gold in the Olympics was the team dubbed The Axis of Evil. The story goes that they had won the gold last year in a glorious performance in which they had defeated Kev’s team in beer pong using their opposite shooting hands.

Let me repeat that. They beat Kev’s team by shooting with their bad hands. They were good. Still, Kev was determined to return this year and capture the gold from the Axis.

I was on a team of my own. No one was expecting much from me, which I liked because it meant that I didn’t need to do much to impress. The bar had been set low.

My team ended up finishing fourth. Not bad, out of eight teams. Of the three events, Chugging, Beer Pong, and Flip Cup, Kev’s team shined in Chugging, finishing all ten beers between their three teammates in less than three minutes. Kev himself ended up finishing four beers in two minutes. Monster, I thought.

What was even crazier is that there was another kid from Virginia Tech on another team that finished a Beer Olympics record for chugging. He ended up chugging Seven beers, although they it is believed he only finished six and a half. That’s still awfully impressive.

Kev’s team easily claimed the overall gold.

When all was said and done, we had quite a fun weekend. I did a little bit too much drinking and perhaps a bit too much partying. But, I had a blast and it was a great way to spend the Memorial Day weekend.

Perhaps, my only regret is not having spent any time near a shore or on a beach. Oh well, there’s plenty of summer left for that.

Keeping in touch.

Posting,
