The delayed inevitability has finally come to fruition.

Afterall, what kind of a bachelor has a bachelor pad with no pets???

Yes, folks. We’ve finally got some pets in the apartment!

After an extended “trial period” of time where the roommate and I successfully held down our own fort for an entire year, we decided that we could afford to invest in some company for the living space. We’re both dog people and we’ve wanted a dog for quite some time. We even had a few discussions that led into a tiny standoff/petition to permit dogs in the complex which fell by the wayside rather quickly and unsuccessfully.

In the end, we succame to the desire to own something cute and cuddly that would playfully entertain us or await our godlike arrival home to them everyday from work. So, last Friday we ventured to the nearest animal shelter in search of a kitten. What we ended up finding were two five month old kittens, black and white in color scheme, and decided to adopt them based on the first impressions they gave us; that being cute, warm, affectionate, and always sleepy.

Yes, sleep. Keep sleeping. The more you sleep, the less likely you are to get into trouble, destroy my shit, or bother me. Slllleeeeeppppp…..

We got them home Monday. I’m actually off to take them to the vet for their first physical in about an hour. For names, the roomie and I ran through a slew of catchy, sometimes corny, duo or partner in crime names as well as traditional cat names. Then, like most men I assume, we started coming up with sports figures names.

Finally, I asked my roomie what their original shelter names were; Florence and Sydney.

Hmm…

“How about we keep the one as Sydney, and we rename the other Simon? You know, as in Sidney Crosby and Simon Gagne?”  (for those not too familiar, these are the names of two hockey players, Crosby aka “Sid the Kid” is arguably one of the best young players in the NHL, while Gagne is a talented, though recently injury plagued forward for the hometown Philadelphia Flyers)

My roomie’s eyes widened in agreement and acceptance of the name proposal.

So, now here we are. Two five month old kittens in a one bedroom apartment. I can barely take care of myself. Hah!

Should be interesting.
